Desktop II: Capturing Backgrounds

Maybe you don't have any cool images or family pictures you want to use for your desktop background.  Well, don't worry. You have an incredible world of image resources at your fingertips. 

There are many, many sites that have wallpaper backgrounds. A recent article in the TechRepublic had some beautiful pictures on the northern lights, and some others of public domain images (meaning can be used without any copyright infringement) from the U.S. National Parks.

It is easy.. just right-click over the large image (the larger the better for the best picture) and left-click on "Set as Desktop Background". A dialog box will pop up to give you a couple of options such as stretching your image or setting the background color.

Want to create "theme" or a variety of desktop backgrounds in Vista or Windows 7?  When you right click on the image, left click on "save image as",  then create your own theme.

In Windows 7, you can put together your own by right-clicking on the desktop and click on "Personalize" once with your left mouse button. then clicking the "Desktop Background" near the bottom left. Browse and select your images and save your changes.

Now you have more images than you could ever imagine at your fingertips and a great way to create a little bit of variety to your desktop. ☺

The New Visual Network: Pinterest

This new up and rising website star has no visible means of support, contains millions of pictures and receives visits from 10 million people in the U.S. each month. It was listed as one of the The 50 Best Websites of 2011 by Time Magazine.  It has received some impressive free media exposure with Reese Witherspoon stating it has "a collection of the most amazing, wonderful craftiness on the earth!" So what is Pinterest?  It has been called a visual bulletin board for the Web. People post images of what they love:  food, clothing, crafts, books, movies, decorating, travel, photography, videos.. you name it, it's there. Clean Up Your Notifications

  OK.  On any giving day I used to get hundreds of email notifications. Why do I need so many?
